Mission statement

The Tunisian United Network (TUN) was founded on uniting Tunisian Americans on a common cause of helping Tunisia build its nascent democracy. TUN is focused on building a strong relationship between the United States and Tunisia based on shared values of freedom, democracy, and respect to human rights.

TUN is keen on strengthening relationships with key lawmakers while serving as an interlocutor advocating for a strategic partnership and lasting U.S.-Tunisia relations.

Our Vision

To empower the Tunisian-American community to be a powerful and effective voice in shaping
U.S.-Tunisia relations.

Our Strategy

Key pillars of TUN’s work:

● Capacity Building: Train and deploy a network of leaders and advocates in key states
● Coalition Building: Engage and collaborate with similar organizations focused on democracy and human rights in the MENA region
● Policy Development: Connect with subject matter experts and policymakers to develop actionable policies in order to enact change

Recent Challenges

Our vision of a democratic Tunisia has come under threat since President Kaïs Saïed unilaterally dismissed the prime minister, suspended parliament and dissolved the government on July 25, 2021.
Now more than ever, Tunisian Americans must rally and call upon the Biden administration and Congress to pressure President Saïed to return Tunisia to its democratic path. TUN is working to empower Tunisian Americans and mobilize the community to demand these changes.

Our Policy Agenda

Since the onset of the 25 July 2021 coup, TUN has proactively worked with our partners on the Hill meeting with senior Senate Foreign Relations Committee members, and 15 Senate & House offices in order to convey the Tunisian community’s concerns regarding the unlawful dissolution of the Tunisian parliament and human rights violations.
